The Calm

Like the lone bird I feel...

In search of the calm.

Hidden away in solitude.

Looking out and searching...

For my ship to come in.

But I stroll the shores
Admiring the treasures.

Enjoying the calm.

Knowing that I am not anchored anymore.
I shall build my own ship.

Blue Monday...Blue Skies...Blue H2O

Hey all you gypsea's..
Hope you had  fabulous weekend,
I finally went beach side to test out the back,
the foot with only 1/2 feeling left and so on.
But sad to say... this mermaid can no longer go
hours and hours on end and scour...
But I did get in enough time to get a few scores...
With the blue water...

Baby seagulls in a forming tide pool...

Awesome shot due to some high winds..
See...?
The mini pirate and I got to hunting!
He also served as my watch dog for any holes in the sand
that I may not see,
and we know, I don't want any of that!
So, one of our first signs, was the usual clear/white sea glass.

Now is the time for the snails..(Moonstones) to start appearing..
And then to my utmost surprise...
What do you think I came across?
I was shocked!
Yes!! A sand dollar!
In New Jersey!!
Not as pretty as the ones I find in Florida,
but just that we found one here made up jump for joy!

So as the pirate and I finished up in the water and back onto the sand...

We nicknamed it the Day of the Dead, due to all the washed up horseshoe crabs.
Then I stumble upon another of my favorite beachy treasures...
Tell me that is not the coolest piece EVER!!!!
So by the time I knew I needed to rest this achy back..
Here are a few of my scores.

I like!
Yeppers..
That is BLACK seaglass!

Ahhh.. just looking at them makes me happy!
So stay tuned, this coming weekend will be my last at the
Jersey Shore.
Cause this mermaid is finally heading south!!!
Yippee!!
So get your Sand and Sea posts ready..
I think this may call for a giveaway perhaps on Sunday...
Ya think?

Sisters of The Surf

The nuns of Sister Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have found a unique way to raise funds: hosting a surfing competition.
The nuns don't actually participate in the competition but their relationship with the surfing community goes back to the1950's when they opened up their beach to surfers. Since then, their stretch of sand has been known as Nun's Beach. The money raised at the event maintain their 6 1/2 acre, 150 bedroom, Jersey Shore beach retreat - Villa Maria by the Sea.  (I can't help but wonder how many developers have offered to buy their property!)
Their 16th annual Nun's Beach Surf Invitational in Stone Harbor, New Jersey.

The nuns may not ride the waves but they do enjoy watching the contestants." It's very peaceful," said Sister James, the retreat's property manager. "You see how the water holds them up, balances them and if you ride with the water, it will get you where you want to go. That's how it is with the grace of God."

This morning the sky was a vibrant mixture of multiple hues...
The sea just waiting for someone to play in it.
And then it began.
From the West Coast or from down South they donned their wetsuits, sex wax and a laid back yet confident stride.
I must say... some arrived in die hard Hang Ten way.
( I also am in pure love with this vehicle!)
You have to admit.. You love it too!
But we weren't too lucky today as far as the swell or the weather.
Those pretty hues in the early morn began to fade, and the dark skies came in and the rain fell.
But that doesn't mean they stopped.
Or we weren't able to capture some shots.

But the rain did start to come down...
And the cold set in.
We hung around as long as we could handle the chill and amped up little ones.

But before we left we had to make a pit stop and grab some T's and sweatshirts...and of course ask for some blessings!
Don't you just love her smile!!!
So we grabbed our treats...
Said goodbye to the lone boards...
But something did catch my eye as I was crossing the street...

You know that I am
So getting this made for me!
Gotta love it!
Have a great Sunday and drop me a line on what beach lovin' eco fun you had!

Just Waiting.

Good Heavens Gypsea's,
This is one tired Mermaid here.
It seems everyday that goes by,
I am waiting
to get slammed with something else.
Wherever do I begin?
First we were hit with
Hurricane Irene.
Luckily she did little damage in my neck of the woods.
Then I received my scheduled surgery date.
 September 20th.
So I had a HUGE delay in my move to my slice of heaven
in Florida.

My dad is still hanging in there...
Each day it's meeting with a different Dr.
Whether it be Vascular, Spinal, Cardiology,
to donating blood for the big day, (yes, I am scared out of my mind!)
Now I have lost the sensation on the right side of my foot
and the last 3 toes.
The shooting pain from my lower back on down
is enough to drive one mad at times.
So I have spent a lot of time
trying to stay
calm.
sane.
alive.
I have been spending my time
pretty much alone

or with
my mini pirate.
Either fishing...
or collecting some new types of shells...
or fishing...
do you see a trend here yet?
hee hee hee...
Or still collecting my heart stones
or the sea glass that has been rare this season.
I have just spent the time
trying to keep it together.
So the mini pirate and I have stuck together
hunting for treasures
boating away...
Or ya know...
Fishing OR crabbing.
And him catching me spider crabs,
telling me that was my dinner!
(YUCK!)
And as the day winds down...
I stare out to sea
Say a prayer up above,
then settle in and dream of my ship coming
and perhaps a Pirate.
